What to expect

Sixth grade is a year of many changes as students begin to transition from elementary into middle school. As our learners begin the change into becoming young adults, we encourage them to grow in independence, responsibility, and self-advocacy within their classes. Students will complete both independent and group projects in all of their courses, will interact with their communities through service hours, and will have the opportunity to learn outside of the classroom through field trips, like our annual trip to the Cincinnati Art Museum.

Expectations of responsibility and excellence are held in all of their courses and students will be encouraged to explore class materials at a deep level. In math, we continue to explore the ideas of number sense and geometric reasoning while building the foundations for algebra by exploring variables, ratios, and proportional reasoning. In science, we use both class and lab work to learn about the engineering design process, geology, life science, and the building blocks of the universe. In social studies, we explore the five themes of geography (Movement, Regions, Human-Environment Interactions, Location, and Place) to see how each of these themes impacted the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, the Indus River Valley, and China. In religion, students delve deeper into their understanding of the gospels and God's message of love for them.  Students also begin acquiring service hours to learn what it means to selflessly love others.   In language arts, students focus on various writing styles, proper grammar, and expanding their vocabulary.  In reading, students study a variety of novels and other selections, both individually and as a class, focusing on all of the elements of literature.

Mrs. Seaman and Mr. Patterson are excited to work with your young learners and feel blessed that you have chosen to trust us with their education! We are looking forward to meeting your children for another great year at St. Peter!
